Storage bed with a gas lift mechanism and slatted lift platform. Twelve steps, and you will need two people.
Before you start
Unpack all components and check them against the parts list below.
Build the bed in the room it will be used in. Once assembled it may not fit through a doorway.
Work in a clean, clear space. Grit or sharp edges can mark or tear the fabric.
Do not use a knife or blade to open packaging near upholstered parts.
Leave bolts hand tight until the steps tell you to tighten them fully.
Tools you will need
Allen keySupplied in the brown box, for the frame and hinge bolts.
ScrewdriverPhillips head, for the mattress stopper, U-clips and strap screws.

The gas lift kit: the slatted base in two halves, the middle bar, two gas lift pistons (gas springs), two gas lift hinges (lifts), the mattress stopper, and a box of bolts, nuts, spanner and straps.
Gas lift safety
Please read before you beginThe gas pistons are under high pressure. Never open, cut, heat or puncture them. Once the pistons are fitted the mechanism will spring open on its own, so keep hands and faces clear of all moving parts and hinge points. The mechanism is designed to work with a mattress on it. Without that weight the platform will try to lift, so never force it closed or hold it down. Always open and close the bed with the gas lift strap, and keep children and pets away from the storage area.
Step-by-step assembly
1
Identify the parts and unpack
Unwrap each part carefully and lay everything out so you can see it.
Match each part to the list above.
Open the brown box (G). It holds the gas lift hinges, pistons, clips, strap and the remaining screws.
Keep the screws and bolts together until you need them so nothing goes missing.
2
Fit the gas lift hinges to the side rails
Stand the headboard (A) upright against a wall. Before connecting anything to it, lay both side rails (B) flat on the floor, inner face up.
The screws for the hinges come already fitted in the side rails. Remove these screws and keep them to hand.
Line up a gas lift hinge from the brown box with those holes, then screw the same screws back in through the hinge, hand tight for now.
Repeat on the other rail. The two hinges should mirror each other.
3
Connect the side rails to the headboard
With the hinges fitted, lift them up into the raised position on each side rail.
Keeping the hinges lifted up, offer each side rail up to the standing headboard.
Line up the fittings, insert the bolts and hand tighten.
Repeat for the other side rail.
4
Attach the footboard
Once both side rails are connected, position the footboard (C) across the open end so it lines up with both rails.
Insert the bolts and hand tighten.
Check the frame is square (both corner-to-corner measurements should match), then tighten all frame bolts fully.
5
Attach the gas lift pistons
Take the gas lift pistons from the brown box.
With the hinges still lifted up, fit one end of a piston to the lower mounting point on the hinge and the other end to the upper mounting point.
Secure both ends, then repeat on the other side. Both pistons must face the same way.
CautionOnce the pistons are fitted the mechanism will lift open with force. Keep hands and faces clear, and do not try to push it closed.
6
Fit the black base board
The black base board (D) comes in two halves and goes in underneath, at the bottom of the frame.
Place both halves between the side rails so they meet neatly.
Check they sit flat and level to form the storage floor.
7
Attach the middle bar
With the base board in, fit the middle bar (F), sometimes labelled the central bar, across the frame so it connects both side rails. Depending on your bed, it may be metal or wooden.
Each side rail has two screws already fitted where the bar goes. Remove them and keep them to hand.
Line up the bar and screw the same screws back in through it, two on each side, then tighten fully.
8
Open out the slatted base
Unwrap the slatted base (E) and lay it out ready to fit.
Single and small double beds have a flat slatted base, so there is nothing to unfold.
Double, king and super king bases are folded in half across the width. Open the base out flat.
9
Fit the U-clips
There is a U-clip at each end of the slatted base, one at the footboard end and one at the headboard end alongside the mattress stopper.
Take the U-clips from the brown box and screw one in at the footboard end of the slatted base.
Fit the second U-clip at the headboard end in the same way.
10
Attach the mattress stopper
Screw the mattress stopper from the brown box to the slatted base at the headboard end. It stops the mattress from sliding when the bed is opened, so make sure it is secure.
11
Fit the slatted base to the hinges
With your helper, lift the slatted base onto the gas lift hinges.
Check it is the right way round so the screw holes in the base line up with those in the hinges.
Screw it in place on both sides and tighten fully.
Check every bolt on the hinges, pistons and frame is tight before the bed is closed or used.
12
Attach the gas lift strap
The gas lift strap is what you pull to raise and lower the bed.
Screw the strap from the brown box to the slatted base at the opening end, where you can reach it easily.
Place your mattress on the base against the mattress stopper.
Close the bed gently using the strap.
Using your bedThe gas lift pistons are designed to take the weight of a mattress, so until a mattress is in place the base will stay raised on its own and will feel very stiff to pull down. This is normal and does not mean the mechanism is faulty. With your mattress on the slatted base, the bed will open and close smoothly using the gas lift strap. If a piston loses pressure, stop using the lift and contact us.
